October 30, 2025

A court in Islamabad on Thursday indicted human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha in controversial tweets case. Both husband and wife denied the charges against them. Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka summoned all witnesses of the prosecution at the next hearing. The judge also ordered Hadi to again submit bail bonds. Earlier, an exchange of hot words took place between the judge and Hadi when the latter said he would not submit bail bonds again.

“Keep me in prison for a year.  I have no objections,” he said, adding, “You are not eligible to become a judge because you did an illegal act yesterday.” On this occasion, Imaan said to the judge that she and her husband had no issues if he sent them to jail. The judge replied that it was his principle, “Give respect and earn respect.” The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered a case against the couple. Later, the court adjourned the case’s hearing until November 5.
