February 28, 2023

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday approached anti-terrorism court (ATC) for interim bail in a case related to PTI protestors’ alleged rioting and clashes with Islamabad police in the aftermath of his disqualification by the Election Commission of Pakistan in the Toshakhana reference.

In the petition, the former prime minister maintained that Islamabad police registered case against him on “political grounds”. He pleaded with the court to grant him interim bail in the case. Khan was booked at PS Sangjani over interfering in state affairs during a protest in Islamabad outside ECP office. Earlier, the former prime minister had secured protective bail from the Lahore High Court (LHC) in a case registered at the Sangjani police station.

A two-member bench of the LHC led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi heard Imran Khan’s protective bail plea in a case registered at the Sangjani police station. During the hearing, Imran Khan told the bench that his wounded leg has not fully recovered. He said that any shock to his fractured leg would stop him from recovering for three more months. He sought two weeks from the court as his X-ray will be conducted on February 28. The LHC bench approved the protective bail of Imran Khan till March 3.
