Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian will pay a one-day visit to Islamabad on Tuesday June 23 for high-level talks with Pakistani leaders.According to media reports, President Pezeshkian will hold talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with focus on Iran-US dialogue process and bilateral relations. The visit came a day after both Iran and the US officials held mediated talks in Switzerland aimed at ending the Middle East conflict.
On Sunday, President Pezeshkian said Iran has “no fear of defending its legitimate rights” as he stressed that securing national interests through dialogue and diplomacy should take precedence over remaining in a state of war. Addressing a cabinet meeting in Tehran, the president said that when Iran can secure its rights through dialogue and diplomacy, it should not remain at war.His remarks come as Tehran engages in mediated negotiations with Washington in Switzerland under a 60-day framework aimed at reaching a final agreement.
Pezeshkian described national unity and solidarity as Iran’s greatest achievement following the US-Israeli war of aggression against the country, saying coordination and solidarity among all institutions are “exceptional and unprecedented” and must be preserved and strengthened. He said the negotiation process has been presented to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and members of the Supreme National Security Council have shared their views on the matter.
