Police in Jhelum on Monday registered an FIR against a TikToker under different sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for uploading a fake video on social media of water spilling over from the Mangla Dam into neighbouring villages, and thus resulting in a large scale destruction. As per the text of the FIR registered against Malik Nabeel, he, by uploading the video in which hundreds of villages were shown submerged, spread panic and fear in the area.
The case was registered on the complaint of the SI.Misusing the social media platform of TikTok is not a new development. On Sunday, Swabi police arrested a TikToker who would allegedly make videos while dressed as a girl and uploaded them to his account to “mislead people, especially the youth”. Swabi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ijaz Abazai and Saidul Amin, Station House Officer (SHO), said that the TikToker would film videos while dressed as a woman and making obscene poses.
“There was severe resentment and anxiety among society,” SHO Amin said. “Aamir Khan, the in-charge of Bamkhel outpost, traced the TikToker, and police have taken immediate action and arrested the suspect, a resident of Bamkhel.” A first information report (FIR) has been filed against the TikToker at the Swabi city police station.
