Mayor of Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab Tuesday said that upgrading all hospitals under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on modern lines and providing quality healthcare facilities to citizens at their doorstep is a top priority. He expressed these views during his visit to Spencer Eye Hospital on Tuesday, where he reviewed ongoing development, repair, and upgradation work in detail and directed the relevant authorities to further expedite the pace of work.
He stated that under a public-private partnership, all facilities at the hospital are being improved, and Spencer Eye Hospital will be reopened on April 6 after completion of rehabilitation and renovation work. On this occasion, Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, Senior Director Medical Dr. Mahwash Muttani, Director Media Daniyal Siyal, and other officials were also present. Mayor Karachi inspected the under-construction wards, operation theater, OPD, and other facilities, stating that for the first time in KMC’s history, revolutionary changes are being introduced in the health department.
He emphasized that all resources are being utilized transparently to ensure the provision of the best possible facilities to the public. He also directed officials to further improve the quality of medical services for the convenience of patients. Senior Director Medical and Health Services Dr. Mahwash Muttani briefed the Mayor Karachi that the hospital will be equipped with modern diagnostic equipment, advanced laser technology, and treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors for various eye diseases.
These include cataract, glaucoma, retinal diseases, pediatric eye conditions, vision impairment, and other complex eye disorders. According to the hospital administration, after renovation, the hospital will offer modern infection control systems, comfortable waiting areas, and improved medical facilities. Spencer Eye Hospital will soon resume its services with enhanced, modern, and free eye care facilities for the public.
