In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra has criticized the authorities for repressive measures in dealing with the Katra protests over the controversial ropeway project. According to Kashmir Media Service, addressing media persons in Jammu, Karra urged the authorities to ensure the release of detained leaders to foster a conducive atmosphere for dialogue. Accompanied by senior Congress leaders, Karra highlighted the ill-treatment and indefinite detention of local leaders in inhumane conditions, stating it hinders efforts for an amicable resolution.
In a tacit attack on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is the de facto ruler in IIOJK, he questioned why Congress representatives, despite being part of the coalition government, face restrictions in reaching Katra, while BJP leaders are allowed. Karra also expressed concern over the impact of the shutdown on livelihoods and pilgrim services.
