Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires to India, Saad Ahmad Warraich, has underscored that durable peace in South Asia remains impossible without just resolution of the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute, stressing that meaningful engagement between Pakistan and India must be rooted in equality, mutual respect and adherence to international obligations.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, the envoy highlighted that normalization of ties between the two nuclear-armed neighbors hinges on the peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes, particularly Kashmir, in line with relevant UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Such statements reflect Pakistan’s consistent stance that sustainable regional stability is directly linked to addressing the core political dispute.
During the ceremony, Saad Ahmad Warraich hoisted the national flag at the Chancery Lawns and paid tribute to the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, noting that the Lahore Resolution served as a defining moment that guided Muslims of the subcontinent towards the creation of Pakistan. He emphasized that the sacrifices rendered during the freedom movement continue to inspire the nation to safeguard its sovereignty and work towards progress and prosperity.
The envoy reiterated that a just settlement of the Kashmir dispute is intrinsic to establishing peaceful relations, warning that ignoring the issue undermines prospects for lasting peace in the region. He added that Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and maintaining credible deterrence contributes to stability in South Asia.
