The Korangi EBM Causeway has been reopened for motorcycles and small vehicles after being closed due to flooding and damage.According to traffic police officials barriers on the route from Baloch Colony to the Korangi Industrial Area have been removed, while traffic has also been cleared from the Korangi Industrial Area towards Baloch Colony, police said. However, the Korangi River crossing remains shut for all traffic due to extensive damage.
SP Traffic Korangi is overseeing efforts to maintain smooth vehicular movement at Jam Sadiq Bridge, where traffic flow continues on both tracks, according to the Karachi Traffic Police. The closure of EBM Causeway on Thursday resulted in a massive traffic jam at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Jam Sadiq Bridge, Brooks Chowrangi and other adjoining areas.
The closure of the main arteries caused a traffic jam as the overflowing river created hazardous conditions, prompting immediate shutdowns to ensure public safety. Thousands of residents and vehicles are stranded in gridlock, with long queues of vehicles stretching for miles. The situation worsened due to the double impact of flooding and poor drainage, as reported by eyewitnesses and traffic police.
According to the traffic police, the chaos at Qayyumabad Chowrangi and Jam Sadiq Bridge exacerbated the crisis, leaving commuters stuck for hours in Korangi. Karachi has been facing heavy to moderate rains since Tuesday as the downpour was witnessed in many areas on Thursday too.
