Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, visited the office of Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, in Karachi on Wednesday. He was warmly welcomed by Minister Memon upon his arrival. During the meeting, KP Governor praised the Sindh government for presenting a people-friendly budget and extended his congratulations on its successful passage.
He particularly lauded the Sindh government’s initiatives in the transport sector, highlighting the introduction of pink buses, pink taxis, and pink scooters aimed at empowering women. Kundi urged the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to adopt similar measures to support and empower women across the provinces. “All provinces should implement initiatives like those of the Sindh government to empower women,” said Kundi.
He emphasized that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab must follow Sindh’s lead in women empowerment programs. Governor Kundi credited Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for laying the foundation for women’s empowerment in Pakistan. “President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have further carried forward her vision,” he stated.
He also acknowledged President Zardari’s launch of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and appreciated Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for granting property ownership rights to women in flood-affected areas. “My goal is to introduce pink buses, scooters, and taxis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well,” Kundi pledged. “No other province is providing transport facilities like those being offered by the Sindh government.” Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon remarked, “We are not just providing transport facilities, but ensuring dignity and independence for women.”
He emphasized that this vision stems from the leadership of President Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and that the Sindh government was implementing it with utmost seriousness. Sharjeel Memon also affirmed Sindh's readiness to collaborate with all other provinces to ensure that women’s development and empowerment become a national policy priority.
