A prominent Ladakhi vlogger, Irfan Shalistani, was brutally assaulted and robbed in Naya Gaon, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Punjab, raising serious concerns about the safety of citizens from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir including Ladakh region traveling or working inside India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the attackers physically assaulted Shalistani, issued death threats, and forcibly looted over INR 30,000, in an incident the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) described as a targeted act of violence and intimidation. The association said the attack reflects the growing vulnerability of individuals from IIOJK region in India, particularly those speaking out, creating content, or maintaining a public presence.
Following the attack, JKSA Convenor Nasir Khuehami immediately engaged with Punjab authorities, demanding urgent action and strict legal measures against the perpetrators. Acting on the JKSA intervention, local police dominated by Sikh people registered FIR at Naya Gaon Police Station under relevant criminal sections, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend all involved.
