There is no respite for the people of Lahore from smog as with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 408 on Monday, the city of gardens emerged as the most polluted city in the world, making it hard for the people to breathe.Lahore was followed by Cairo, the capital of Egypt, where the AQI stood at 295. New Delhi was at the third spot. The AQI in the Indian capital was recorded at 270.In Lahore, cantonment was the worst polluted area where the AQI soared to 815.
It was followed by the areas surrounding the Civil Secretariat where the AQI was recorded at 798.As far as other cities in Punjab are concerned, air quality in Faisalabad was the worst. The AQI in the city shot up to 509.Gujranwala’s turn came next as the AQI in the city was recorded at 425.Fog leads to closure of M-1On the other hand, dense fog resulted in the closure of a section of the motorway, M-1, connecting Peshawar to Islamabad, from Peshawar to Rashkai.
