Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Sialkot airports shut down over security concerns تازترین

May 08, 2025

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has temporarily suspended flight operations at four major airports Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Sialkot citing national security concerns, particularly after the downing of an Indian drone near Lahore early Thursday. The PAA spokesperson said Lahore, Sialkot, and Karachi airports will remain closed until 12:00 PM today. All the air travellers have been advised to remain in contact with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates.

Earlier in the day, the Lahore and Sialkot airspaces were shut down, following a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued shortly after security forces shot down a hostile drone near Lahore airport. Authorities expanded the closure to Karachi airport, and subsequently Islamabad International Airport was also affected. The Islamabad airport closure, however, was attributed to “operational reasons”, according to PAA officials.

Sialkot International Airport spokesperson Umair Khan confirmed the temporary suspension, stating that all passengers and their families were safely evacuated from the terminal. He added that all resources are being mobilised to respond effectively to any potential emergency. The airport authorities emphasised that these measures have been taken strictly in view of national safety and are temporary in nature.
