The Lahore High Court has issued contempt of court notice to Vice Chancellor of Punjab University on the issue of tree cutting.During the proceedings on Friday, the court was dissatisfied with the response of the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Dr Muhammad Ali. The court also extended the stay order on Sheranwala and Taxali Gate projects until the next hearing.
The court extended the stay order for not making a tree transplant policy.Justice Shahid Karim heard the case regarding smog prevention. Punjab University Law Officer Dr. Ali Nawaz and Legal Advisor Shahzad Shaukat and others appeared.Member of Environmental Commission Syed Kamal Haider presented a report regarding the court orders.
He told the court that a meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Environmental Commission on the transplant policy. Member of Environmental Commission submitted that there are some suggestions from the WWF and the committee. Member of Environmental Commission submitted that work has to be done on Sundays too because no lawyer from PHA comes.
Vice Chancellor Punjab University had submitted a contempt of court reply, member of the Environmental Commission submitted. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that court is not satisfied with this reply and formal contempt of court notice has been issued. Court further adjourned the case till February 27.
