Light rain brings relief to Lahoris amid rising temperaturesBreaking

May 08, 2025

Light rain continued in various parts of the provincial capital on Thursday turning the city’s weather pleasant while prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to remain on high alert.According to the Meteorological Department, the highest recorded rainfall so far was two millimetres in Paniwala Talab, while Gulberg, Upper Mall, and Tajpura each received one millimetre of rain.

The scattered showers provided much-needed respite to citizens from the rising temperatures and humid conditions that had gripped the city over the past week. In view of the weather conditions, WASA officials issued instructions to ensure all disposal stations remain functional. Vice Chairman WASA directed field staff to keep pumping stations operational round the clock, particularly in low-lying areas vulnerable to water accumulation.

“All generators must be kept on standby to deal with any power outages,” the Vice Chairman said, adding that in case of a breakdown in electricity supply, disposal stations should immediately switch to generator power to prevent urban flooding. MD WASA also reviewed the drainage preparedness and directed zonal heads to remain present in the field during the rain spell.

The Meteorological Office has forecast more light to moderate rain in the coming hours, particularly in eastern and northern parts of the city. Citizens have been advised to stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel in areas known for poor drainage.
