Light to heavy rain brings relief across KarachiBreaking

August 19, 2025

Residents of Karachi woke up to pleasant weather on Tuesday morning as light to heavy showers were reported across the city following days of hot and humid conditions. Rainfall was recorded in several parts of the metropolis, including Sharea Faisal, Shah Faisal Colony, the airport vicinity, Malir’s Model Colony, Malir Halt, Rafah-e-Aam, Surjani Town, and Korangi.

Light drizzle in the early morning hours gave way to heavier showers in some areas, offering a much-needed respite from the heat. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast isolated showers in Karachi over the coming days, with a rain-bearing system expected to impact the city from August 22 to 23.Despite the rainfall, sea breezes came to a halt, leaving humidity levels at 75 percent in the air.

The change in weather has been welcomed by citizens, though concerns remain about waterlogging and drainage in low-lying areas. In anticipation of heavier downpours, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired an emergency meeting to review preparedness.

He directed local governments, administration, and traffic police to remain on high alert and ensure smooth coordination to minimize disruption.Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab briefed the CM on ongoing efforts to improve drainage across 44 critical choke points and more than 150 smaller drains, with de-silting work underway to allow rainwater to flow smoothly.
