The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province to avert a looming wheat and flour crisis while imposing an immediate ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed mills.According to media reports, the step aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour, and bread for human consumption in the province. The provincial government implemented the measure amid growing concerns about possible wheat shortages, the channel reported on Friday.
As per the directives issued by the Home Secretary of Punjab, wheat will now only be supplied to flour mills for the production of flour. Reports indicated that feed mills in Punjab currently hold 104,184 metric tonnes of wheat in stock, which they had intended to use for poultry feed. The Secretary for Price Control stressed that wheat is a staple food for humans and should not be diverted from flour production.
