National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has declared the digital Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) equivalent to physical CNIC. As per details, reports were that some government offices and departments, instead of accepting a digital CNIC, demanded to provide a physical or photocopy of the CNIC. NADRA said that this practice is contrary to the prevailing legal and regulatory framework.
NADRA further revealed that digital identity terms were constituted as per the NADRA Ordinance, and sections 9 and 10 provide legal cover to the digital identity These regulations define digital IDs as valid proof of identity. This also helps to protect the personal data of citizens. All the government and financial institutions, and telecom operations should ensure full implementation of these directives. The citizens can register their complaints through NADRA’s complaints system.
