Nine Muslims of Bengali origin, including the son of an Assam Police constable, have been detained in Gurugram on suspicion of being undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants. Sannat Ali, a constable in the Assam Industrial Security Force, stated that his 23-year-old son, Ashraful Islam, a resident of Barbala village in Barpeta district, had recently started working at a construction site in Sector 10A, Gurugram area of Haryana.
Ali said his son and eight others from Barpeta were picked up by police while working at the site. He added that Ashraful had submitted valid identification documents, including his voter ID card, school certificates, Aadhaar card, and PAN card, but the police refused to accept them. “They call them illegal Bangladeshis,” Ali said. A police official, without confirming the exact number of detainees, stated, “The process to verify their documents is ongoing.”
