Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik said on Wednesday that the provision of cheaper gas and electricity to a segment of the population and exempting them from the payment of tax must stop. Addressing Pakistan Policy Dialogue in Islamabad, he said that the only way Pakistan could be made prosperous was by increasing production and creating job opportunities. The minister claimed that an improvement had been noticed in the economic indicators courtesy government efforts. 

He further said that the role of the private sector in the country’s progress was significant. Musadik said that environment-friendly economic progress was need of the hour. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal stressed the need for increasing exports. “Unless we make exports the backbone of the country’s economy, no progress is possible,” he opined.
