Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday paid rich tribute to nurses on International Nurses Day, acknowledging their vital role in the healthcare system and their dedicated services for humanity. In her special message issued on the occasion of International Nurses Day, the chief minister said nurses symbolized hope, courage and compassion for patients during times of illness, pain and helplessness.
She remarked that nurses were the backbone of every hospital and healthcare system, as they remained engaged day and night in the care and treatment of patients. CM Maryam Nawaz said nursing was not merely a profession but a sacred duty, adding that nurses were held in high esteem in every society due to their commitment and humanitarian services.
The chief minister reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring the professional growth, dignity and self-respect of nurses in all public hospitals across the province. She said various initiatives, including language courses and specialised training programmes, were being introduced in the nursing sector to improve the living standards and professional capabilities of nurses.
She said the Punjab government had launched an internship programme for BSN nursing degree holders under which interns were being provided stipends equivalent to the basic salary of a charge nurse. CM Maryam Nawaz further announced that a modern Nursing Centre of Excellence was being established in Rawalpindi to enhance nursing education and training facilities. She added that reforms were also being introduced in the educational curriculum and training methods to make the nursing profession a model sector in the province.
