The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed an oil processing unit and arresting one person during an operation here on Thursday.According to a PFA spokesperson, the action was carried out at an oil industry located in the Adda Lar area under the supervision of Director Operations South, Ramiz Zafar. The processing unit was sealed on the spot, while a case was registered against the factory owner for violations of food safety regulations.
During the raid, food safety teams recovered a large quantity of bleaching powder and other materials used in the illegal refining process. Director General PFA said the unit was producing loose oil from animal fat and supplying it to ghee manufacturing factories.The DG further stated that various chemicals were being used to refine the oil, which posed serious health risks to consumers. Samples of the oil were sent to the laboratory for further analysis,he concluded.
