Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday strongly criticised the ongoing actions against PTI leaders, calling them unconstitutional, and claimed that Omar Ayub was removed from office through unconstitutional means. Speaking to a news channel ourtside Peshawar High Court (PHC), where he arrived to discuss the legal developments in Omar Ayub’s case, he said, “The Election Commission of Pakistan did not issue us any notice.
We are hopeful that the Peshawar High Court will uphold our constitutional rights. We are proud of Omar Ayub.” He further stated that no reference was sent by the speaker of the National Assembly, and that Omar Ayub was actively representing the public. “We will continue to raise our voice, and our struggle will persist until the release of the PTI founder,” he added. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held a hearing on a disqualification reference against Omar Ayub, which was submitted by the Speaker.
The case was heard by a four-member bench headed by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani. During the proceedings, a junior lawyer informed the bench that the case is currently under hearing at the Peshawar High Court. In response, Member KP questioned the relevance of continuing the hearing, stating, “What’s the point of this reference now? Omar Ayub is already disqualified.” He added that Omar Ayub has been disqualified following his conviction, and under the law, the Election Commission is required to decide such references within 90 days.
