In yet another move reflecting the Indian government’s growing militaristic approach in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, over 25 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with two units of CoBRA commandos are being deployed in Kathua, Udhampur, and Samba districts of Jammu region to intensify its military operations against freedom-loving Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), trained in jungle warfare and guerrilla tactics, is being introduced in the Jammu region in unprecedented numbers. The deployment is part of a broader strategy to intensify operations in key districts, including Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur, particularly in areas close to the border. Officials cited by Indian media have claimed that the decision was taken at the highest level and marks a shift from previous reliance on the Indian Army. Two Indian Army brigades are already stationed in Kathua.
The move comes amid rising concerns that India is reviving early 2000s-style tactics by dominating high-altitude terrain and boosting presence in the hinterland, further tightening its grip over the disputed territory. Analysts say the redeployment signals India’s continuing policy of muscle-flexing in occupied Jammu and Kashmir rather than addressing the political and human rights concerns of the region’s people. The militarization, they warn, will only deepen the atmosphere of fear and repression in the already volatile territory.
