A day after reporting lowest Covid-19 infections in months, Pakistan has recorded a surge in number of daily coronavirus cases which were 24 with no fatality during the last 24 hours , showed the statistics released by the National Institute of Health (NIH) on Wednesday morning. According to the NIH data, the death toll in the country remained the same at 30,640 whereas the number of total infections now soared to 1,576,109 after adding the fresh 24 cases. Pakistan had registered only five infections on the previous day. During the last 24 hours (Tuesday), 4,152 tests were conducted throughout the country whereas the positivity ratio also shoot up to 0.58 percent as compared to previous day’s 0.27 percent. The number of patients in critical care stood at 12.

The time to reach the peak (of infections) and to return to normal has been relatively fast. In some senses, it has exceeded our expectations,he said. Liu said the food and beverage industry and tourism had started to return to normal, with five billion trips expected during ChinaLunar New Year holiday that begins this weekend. Things have comprehensively returned to normal, he said. Currently the main difficulty is still the elderly, those with underlying conditions,he said, adding: We are currently striving to tackle this. Millions of the elderly in China are not fully vaccinated, with President Xi Jinping government criticised for not prioritising immunisation campaigns among the country most vulnerable citizens.

Liu also encouraged foreigners to visit China after quarantine requirements for overseas arrivals were dropped last week. We very much welcome international friends to come to China. We will provide the best service. Of course, right now, on some issues we need some time to transition, but on the whole, there is already no problem, he said.
