PDMA issues high alert for heavy rains in KPBreaking

August 22, 2025

The  Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a high-alert, warning of a fresh spell of intense monsoon rains striking the province from August 22 to 26. Anticipated extreme downpours are expected to elevate water levels in local streams, rivers, and rainwater channels, potentially triggering floods, landslides in hilly terrain, and urban flash floods.

Weak structures, electric poles, advertising hoardings, and solar panels are also at risk of storm damage. At the same time, PDMA Punjab has forecasted a similar spell beginning tomorrow, August 23, with heavy rain likely through August 27, and has issued flood alerts for upper river catchments.

Western winds are expected to sweep into the higher elevations during the night of August 22.  Rainfall is predicted across areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Gujrat—with potential showers in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad.

Meteorologists forecast widespread rain today across Punjab cities such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Lahore, and Sargodha, as well as in parts of Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar, and Tando Muhammad Khan. Meanwhile, most districts of Balochistan are expected to experience hot and humid conditions.
