PHC launches evening courts to speed up justiceBreaking

September 09, 2025

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has decided to introduce evening courts as part of judicial reforms, aiming to provide swift justice and reduce the backlog of cases. As a pilot project, a second shift will be launched in the session courts of Peshawar and Abbottabad. According to an official notification, judicial officers in both districts have been directed to implement the initiative, with court timings set from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

The evening courts will primarily hear civil cases, including rent and family disputes, as well as narcotics-related cases involving women and juveniles, and other drug cases carrying punishments of less than seven years. The High Court stated that the move is intended to ease the burden on the judicial system while ensuring quicker justice for the public.
