Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured that all issues caused by floods in the provinces will be resolved with full national coordination. Chairing a meeting in Islamabad on the flood situation in Punjab and heavy rains, he noted that NDMA’s timely advance warnings helped avert major loss of life and property, and directed that the system of early warnings should continue more effectively.
The prime minister said NDMA has provided tents for Punjab’s affected areas and stressed that other essential supplies must continue. He instructed immediate administrative measures to tackle possible urban flooding in Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore, while ensuring uninterrupted electricity, restored communication, and repaired roads.
Shehbaz Sharif directed the Ministers for Communications and Power, along with NHA officials, to reach Lahore and provide full support to the provincial government. He also emphasized similar federal assistance for Punjab as recently provided to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The prime minister further ordered advance flood warnings for Sindh and stressed timely evacuation, safe relocation, and effective relief operations.
He called for preventive measures to protect lives, property, crops, and livestock. NDMA briefed the meeting about risks of high flooding at Head Marala and Khanki in River Chenab, and heavy water discharge pressure at Jassar and Shahdara in River Ravi, as well as Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki in River Sutlej.
