Taking notice of the skyrocketing prices of tomatoes and other vegetables, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday ordered that steps be taken immediately to bring down their prices and also ensure their availability in the markets.Presiding over a meeting in Lahore, she ordered that rate lists be displayed not only at entrances to all bazaars but also outside every shop.
On the occasion, a detailed briefing was given to her on the reorganization of the Price Control and Commodity Management Department. The department officials presented to the chief minister a strategic plan.The CM was told that an app had been introduced to download detailed information about the stocks and prices of vegetables and pulses as well as other matters. She was informed that the app would also help track trucks at vegetable markets.
It was decided at the meeting to provide pushcarts of the same design to vendors in the province. The participants of the meeting agreed that there would be a same uniform of the market staff. Besides that, their sheds and shops would also be similar in design. The meeting also reviewed the proposal to set up saste stalls in every locality during the holy month of Ramadan.
