May 08, 2025

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has directed law enforcement agencies to increase security across the province, including the capital city of Lahore, amid the ongoing tense situation in the country. In an official statement on Thursday, IGP Anwar confirmed that Punjab Police is on high alert, and all operational, strategic, and logistical preparations are fully in place to tackle any potential emergency.

“The Punjab Police stands fully prepared to ensure peace, public safety, and immediate response in case of any untoward incident,” he said. “We are closely monitoring the situation and remain ready to respond swiftly to any challenge.”The IGP further emphasized that Punjab Police is working in close coordination with the district administration, Civil Defense, and Rescue 1122 to maintain law and order and conduct relief operations if required.

Security measures have also been intensified at all important and sensitive locations, including inter-provincial border police posts, to deter any threat and ensure the safety of citizens. These instructions come in the wake of a Indian spy drone being shot down in the Walton area of Lahore on Thursday morning.

A series of loud explosions was heard on Walton Road in Lahore on Thursday morning, police officials claimed. Multiple blasts were heard on Walton Road in the Gopal Nagar and Naseerabad areas of Lahore near Walton Airport. People ran out of their houses in panic and reported seeing clouds of smoke.  Police sources said an Indian drone was shot down near Walton Airport.

They said the drone measuring 5 to 6 feet was being operated from across the border. The drone was shot down by jamming the system, the sources added.  The Indian drone was flown to spy on sensitive places, the sources further said, adding that the drone carrying explosives had reached very close to the building.
