The Punjab Police has initiated preparations to maintain law and order ahead of a political party's planned long march towards Islamabad on September 27,police sources said on Saturday. According to the sources,more than 45,000 police officers and personnel from Punjab would be deployed at various locations under a comprehensive security plan being finalized for the march. The sources said around 30,000 personnel,including eight DIGs and 15 SSPs, would be deployed in Attock while 6,000 personnel would perform security duties in Rawalpindi.
Another 10,000 to 12,000 personnel could also be placed at the disposal of Islamabad Police,the sources added. They said around Rs.89 million had been released to facilitate the movement and deployment of the additional police force. The personnel would be drawn from various units, including the Punjab Constabulary,district police,Punjab Highway Patrol, Special Protection Unit and Elite Force. The deployment of additional personnel to their respective duty points was expected to begin from September 22, while security measures were also being enhanced at key entry points to Attock,the sources said.
