The Punjab government has decided to hire medical specialists on a temporary basis.According to media reports,  the provincial assembly has approved the Locum Hiring Act 2025 to facilitate temporary recruitment of healthcare professionals across Punjab.Officials stated that under the new law, a committee will be formed headed by the Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare.

The Secretary of Specialized Healthcare will also be part of the committee, along with three field experts and a human resource representative. This committee will determine the terms of reference (TORs) for temporary appointments. As per the bill, advertisements for recruitment must be published in at least two newspapers, and temporarily appointed professionals will not be entitled to claim permanent employment in the future.
