Sector 1-10 residents continue to face acute shortage of waterBreaking

July 28, 2025

Despite the ongoing monsoon rains that have filled Islamabad’s major water reservoirs including Rawal, Simly, and Khanpur dams but despite of this residents across several sectors of the Federal Capital continue to face an acute shortage of potable water. The regular water supply of many streets of 1-10/1 sector have suspended without any sold reason.  Residents of sectors I-10/1, G-6, and G-7 have voiced frustration over the persistent water crisis, saying the authorities have failed to address their genuine concerns despite repeated complaints.

The situation has left many households struggling to meet daily water needs in the midst of the sweltering summer. During a recent survey, residents alleged that a powerful water tanker mafia is gaining ground in the capital, taking advantage of the government’s failure to ensure regular supply. As a result, citizens are being forced to spend millions daily on private tankers.

According to an estimate, residents are collectively paying approximately Rs3.7 million per day to secure water from private suppliers. Saif-ur-Rehman Minhas, a resident of Sector I-10, said, “Irregular and inadequate water supply has severely disrupted the lives of thousands of families. We pay our water bills regularly, yet no supply is ensured.” Another resident, Asif Minhas, added, “We cannot afford to purchase expensive tanker water every day, but we’re left with no other choice.”

Housewife Nadia from the same locality shared her ordeal: “We haven’t received any water for the past three months. Despite registering several complaints, the issue remains unresolved. This crisis has made our lives miserable in this scorching heat.” Residents have also reported extremely low water pressure in areas where supply is still running. “The pressure is so low that even a single glass takes hours to fill,” complained one local.

Accusing the concerned authorities of negligence and indifference, the affected residents have urged the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other relevant departments to take immediate action and ensure the restoration of a regular and adequate water supply across all impacted sectors.
