Awami Muslim League (AML) chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Saturday filed an application in an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi, seeking permission to travel to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah. Sardar Shehbaz Advocate filed the application on behalf of Rasheed. It was stated in the application that the AML chief regularly appeared in the court in connection with the hearings of his cases, and that he never misused the bail granted to him.

It was further written that the purpose of travelling to Saudi Arabia is to perform Umrah, and that the applicant would make sure he returned to the country within the stipulated time period. “It is, therefore, prayed to the court to allow the applicant to perform Umrah.” Speaking to the media outside the court, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said “Amnesty should be granted to everyone during the holy month of Ramazan.”

Sheikh Rasheed said that unemployment has reached its peak and inflation is going to be out of control. The seasoned politician said “Flour is being sold at the rate of Rs159 per kilogram.” Sheikh Rasheed said that he wanted to appeal to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to fix appeals filed by the common man at the earliest for hearing. He said that his nephew is also awarded 40 years imprisonment, even though he did not even visit Faisalabad.
