February 17, 2026

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, head of the Awami Muslim League and former federal minister, appealed to authorities for justice for innocent citizens and called for economic relief amid rising inflation. Speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, Sheikh Rashid emphasized that appeals should be heard in the name of God and the Prophet (PBUH).

He highlighted the case of his nephew, Rashid Shafiq, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison despite having no involvement in the alleged crimes, saying the decision was made without proper examination. Regarding recent suggestions by Alima Khan, Sheikh Rashid said the doctor she recommended should be allowed to join the founder’s medical team, stressing that including the doctor would not pose any issue.

He also addressed the country’s economic crisis, noting that soaring prices and unemployment have disrupted daily commerce. Sheikh Rashid urged that mercy be shown to citizens and their conditions improved. Touching on the upcoming month of Ramadan, he called for special relief and concessions for the underprivileged, considering the significance and spiritual requirements of fasting.
