District Police Officer (DPO) Kot Addu, Mansoor Qamar, has suspended six police officials following the completion of a six-month-long inquiry into the custodial death of a kidnapping suspect in a police lock-up. In a statement issued on Thursday, the suspended officials include Inspector Saeeda Khaliq, Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Hamid, Constable Waheed Rabbani, Constable Mahmood ul Hassan, Constable Muhammad Shehzad and Constable Shani Ali, all posted at City Police Station Kot Addu.
The DPO stated that the investigation was still under way and assured that strict action would be taken against all officials found guilty in the case. It is pertinent to note that Imran, alias Mani, was accused of kidnapping a girl, Anam.The case was registered on the complaint of his mother, Sajida Bibi. He was kept in police lock-up, where his health reportedly deteriorated suddenly around midnight.
He later died in hospital while undergoing treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest. Meanwhile, DPO Khanewal, Ismail Kharak, took notice of the alleged escape of an accused from custody in connivance with officials of Makhdoom Pur police station. He ordered the registration of a case against the officials involved, whose identities have not yet been disclosed. Special teams have been constituted to arrest the escaped accused, identified as Nasir.
