Vote counting is underway for the 24 general seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan general elections. So far, unofficial and unconfirmed results have been announced for 15 of the 24 constituencies. Independent candidates and their supporters staged protests outside the DRO office over delays in the announcement of results for GBA-15, GBA-16, GBA-17, and GBA-18. Police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
The candidates maintain that the delay in releasing the results has raised suspicions about the transparency of the election process. According to the unofficial and unconfirmed results announced so far, candidates of the Pakistan Peoples Party have won six seats, while candidates of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) have secured three seats. The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has won one seat, and five independent candidates have also emerged victorious.
