Pakistan is on the frontlines of climate change and continues to endure devastating floods, record-breaking heatwaves, prolonged droughts and rapid glacial melt, stated Federal Minister for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Musadik Masood Malik, on the occasion of World Earth Day 2025 marked every year globally on April 22.
He said, “This year’s Earth Day theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’, is a call to action to move away from polluting fossil fuels and embrace clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. It is an opportunity to reflect on these escalating challenges and to accelerate collective efforts involving government, civil society, youth, and the private sector”.
He said the green initiatives, which aim to achieve environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals include implementation of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Policy, expansion of solar energy through the Roshan Pakistan initiative, deployment of off-grid clean energy solutions in underserved rural communities, launch of a Green Stimulus Package to create green jobs, rollout of the National Electric Vehicle Policy to decarbonise transportation and collaboration with provincial governments to integrate climate-friendly energy planning at the grassroots level.
He also highlighted that the present government underpins the unprecedented significance of green energy and is committed to transition to renewable energy sources to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
Minister of State for Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, Dr Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal, in her message regarding the world earth day-2025 said that from promoting reforestation and smart agriculture to accelerating renewable energy and clean mobility, Pakistan can effectively help shape a cleaner, stronger, and more sustainable future for us and our future generations.
She urged the public to unite in climate action spearheaded by the present government through different programmes and initiatives being implemented for environmental conservation and protection of natural resources particularly of water, forests, soil and air. “With unity, awareness, and innovation, we have the power to heal the planet. Let’s use that power wisely—for ourselves and for generations to come,” the state minister remarked.
