UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has commended Pakistan’s mediatory role in settling disputes in West Asia during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in New York. During the meeting which was held at UN Headquarters in New York, Mohsin Naqvi discussed regional situation and international affairs with Antonio Guterres.
They also took up Pakistan's mediation efforts to end conflicts in West Asia, as well as Islamabad’s enduring contributions to UN peacekeeping missions. The UN Secretary-General appreciated Pakistan's efforts for peace. Mohsin Naqvi said “Despite challenges, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir had played responsible role in promoting regional peace and stability, and protecting human lives.”
The Interior Minister said realistic mandates for peace missions and the required resources are essential for the success of all peacekeeping missions. The UN Secretary-General thanked Pakistan for long-term support to UN peacekeeping efforts to achieve goal of maintaining global peace and security.
