Water levels in Punjab rivers rising following rains, melting of glaciers  Breaking

The flow of water in the rivers of Punjab is increasing due to monsoon rains and the melting of glaciers. According to the spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the River Indus is in medium flood at Kalabagh and Chashma barrages, while in low flood at Tarbela and Taunsa.  

“There is a low flood in the River Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala where the flow of water is 68,000 cusecs,” he said, adding, “While the flow of water is normal in the River Jhelum and its tributaries.”  Similar is the situation, he has further said, in the River Chenab where the water flow is as per routine, while Nullah Palkhu continues to be in low flood at Sialkot Cantonment.

“Likewise, the flow of water is normal in the River Ravi; however, Nullah Basantar is in low flood,” the spokesman explained.  He has gone on to say that the Tarbela Dam has been filled 98 per cent, while the Mangla Dam 68 per cent. “The water level in Tarbela Dam is 1547.94 feet, while 1211.15 feet in the Mangla Dam. 

Meanwhile, the River Chenab is in low flood in Gujrat due to which several acres of agricultural land has been washed away following erosion.The locals, on the other hand, have complained that no step has been taken by the district administration to save the localities in the surroundings of the river from floodwater.
