After wreaking havoc in central and southern Punjab, floodwaters have now started spreading destruction in Sindh cities and towns, as a little girl in Khairpur was swept away by torrents on Sunday, taking the death toll from the flood in the city to three in just three days.The girl was identified as eight-year-old Feroza, and was playing when she fell prey to floodwater.
In Uch Sharif, district Bahawalpur, which is already reeling from the effects of floods, Akhtar, a father of six children, was killed while trying to save his cattle from raging water. His wife has appealed to the government for help, saying she has already lost her home and now her husband as well and the future of her children is insecure.
The flood has caused widespread devastation in tehsil Mehrr of Dadu as the water from the River Indus has entered Saadi Mosani city besides five villages, inundating homes, shops, graveyards and crops, and forcing the people to move to safe locations.Around 35 to 40 members of an extended family were rendered homeless after 11 rooms of their house were washed away by the raging River Sutlej in Mubarakpur.
The family has appealed to the government for assistance, saying they are now living out in the open. Flood has led to widespread destruction in Kahrorr Pakka where dozens of villages have been flooded, and crops have been submerged. According to a report, out of 106 villages in the area, 40 have been directly affected, while more than 15,000 people have been displaced and crops grown over 25, 000 acres of land have been destroyed.
