Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has said the Holy Quran is not only a source of guidance, but also a complete code of life that every Muslim must follow.He expressed these views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Pakistan's first-ever International Husn-e-Qirat Competition in Islamabad on Monday.
The Minister said that hosting of International Qirat Competition in Pakistan for the first time is a great honour and will help project a positive image of the country globally. He added that the event will also strengthen the spiritual bond among Muslim countries.Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said that the incumbent government is taking steps to promote a deeper understanding of the Holy Quran, and various initiatives are under consideration to introduce Arabic language teaching at multiple levels in educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Dr Atta ur Rehman, welcomed the participating Qaris and judges.He said that Qaris from 40 countries are participating in the competition, and that on the opening day on Monday, Qaris from 12 countries will recite the Holy Quran. The competition will continue until the 27th of this month, while the prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for the 29th of this month.
