Abbas strikes twice as Bangladesh lose three top wickets
Fast bowler Mohammad Abbas struck twice to remove both Bangladeshi openers on the first day of the second cricket Test match being played in Sylhet on Saturday. Abbas hit the bull’s eye on the second ball of the match when he had Mahmudul Hasan Joy caught at second slip by Salman Agha for naught. A few overs later, Abbas struck again, this time he caught debutant Tanzid Hasan on his own bowling.
Shahzad Khurram, who replaced Shaheen Shah Afridi in the match, then clean-bowled Mominul Haque for 22 runs. In the 17th overs, the hosts were able to score 64 runs by losing three top wickets. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first on the first day of the second cricket Test against Bangladesh being played in Sylhet on Saturday, with star batsman Babar Azam returning to the side. Bangladesh handed a debut to white-ball opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim in the second and final Test.
Pakistan, trailing 1-0 in the series after a 104-run defeat in Mirpur, left out Imam-ul-Haq to accommodate Babar, who missed the first Test with a knee injury. The visitors also rested Shaheen Shah Afridi, with Khurram Shahzad coming in, while off-spinner Sajid Khan replaced Noman Ali. Bangladesh handed a Test cap to Tanzid, with fellow opener Shadman Islam ruled out due to a chest injury sustained during the Mirpur Test. Shoriful Islam also returned to Test cricket for the first time since November 2024, replacing Ebadot Hossain.
