Adil, Sadia Shine at SOP National Games
Ten gold medals were decided on the second day of the Special Olympics Pakistan National Games being held under the banner of Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. Athletes from across Pakistan showcased remarkable energy, talent and determination in various track and field events during the National Games. The events were witnessed by SOP Chief Executive Officer Ronaq Lakhani, SOP Board of Directors member Farrukh Abbas, Olympian Sadaf Siddiqui, former Vice Chairman of Special Olympics Pakistan Mahfooz Elahi, along with several other dignitaries.
In the men’s 400m race, KP’s Basit Ali secured the gold medal with a timing of 1:01 minute, while Punjab’s Muhammad Adil claimed silver and Federal Region’s Muhammad Wasif took bronze. In the women’s 400m category, Sindh’s Sadia Junaid won the gold medal with a timing of 1:55 minute. Tabassum finished second with 1:59 minute, while Hajra Munir secured third place with a timing of 2:01 minute. In the F2 women’s 100m race, Sindh’s Saira Akram claimed gold with a timing of 20 seconds, followed by Sindh’s Iman Niaz with silver at 20.37 seconds, while Punjab’s Sahar Safdar won bronze with 20.45 seconds.
Punjab’s Adil Khan emerged victorious in the B+ men’s 100m race, winning gold with a timing of 13.98 seconds. Fellow Punjab athlete Tayyab Waleed secured silver with 14.23 seconds, while KP’s Hammad Zahoor claimed bronze with 14.35 seconds. In the mini javelin throw event, Federal Region’s Elishba Karim and Amreesh Karim secured first and second positions respectively, while Punjab’s Sahar Safdar finished third. In the men’s long jump competition, Sindh’s Asif Ali won gold with a jump of 2.84 meters. Punjab’s Mehboob Rasool claimed silver with 2.75 meters, while Muhammad Ahmad secured bronze with a jump of 2.74 meters.
