Sukkur bus terminal passengers complain of poor facilities
Thousands of passengers travelling from Sukkur to cities across Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan say the city’s main bus terminal lacks basic facilities, making their journeys difficult even before they begin. Passengers complain that the terminal has little or no proper seating and that adequate drinking water is unavailable. Many say they are forced to buy water and other essential items from roadside stalls at high prices.
The shelters meant to protect passengers from the weather have reportedly been taken over by vehicles and are being used as parking areas. Passengers also complain about the poor condition of the terminal’s toilets, saying inadequate cleaning has made them difficult or impossible to use. Women, children and elderly passengers are particularly affected, they say. According to passengers, between 40,000 and 50,000 people travel through Sukkur’s main bus terminal.
They say there are not enough shaded areas to protect travelers from the intense summer heat, while chilled drinking water and clean toilet facilities are also lacking. “The terminal does not have proper shade, cold drinking water or adequate toilets,” passengers said. Residents have called on the authorities to improve the terminal and ensure that basic facilities, including clean toilets, drinking water, seating and shelter from extreme weather, are provided for travelers.
