Art transforms from a hobby into a profitable business

Art is no longer just a hobby but has become a profitable business opportunity, both online and offline, for those with artistic skills. Young people adept in graphic design and digital creativity have strong prospects to start their own ventures and earn handsome profits.

Talking with WealthPK, Muhammad Rizwan, a freelance graphic designer, said, “Art is no longer a hobby and has become a career that provides people with sufficient opportunities to earn.” “I began with simple designs in the local market. Later, I learned graphic design, and now I work with international clients and earn a decent income. My artistic skills give me freedom, while freelancing gives me financial independence. It’s like having a hidden treasure that no one notices until you polish it,” he added.

“Today is an era of creativity, where people can sell their art skills online, including design, crafts, calligraphy, and digital creativity. Instead of chasing jobs, I would suggest that young people try running their businesses and turn their passion into profit,” he remarked. “If you love painting, you can sell portraits. If you are good at calligraphy, wedding card printers, and interior designers will seek your services. In short, art gives young people an edge in today’s tough job market,” he said.

“Pakistan’s local markets are full of opportunities; every town organizes weddings, festivals, and events, requiring decoration. Young artists can design stage backdrops, paint murals, or even create handmade gift items. Even a small shop on your street can become your first customer,” he added. Mohsin Ali, a digital marketing expert, told WealthPK that Pakistan is full of talent, but the real challenge is how to channel it into business or freelancing.

He noted that a growing number of people are earning through their art skills by using social media platforms, proving that determination makes things possible. Sharp people often spend on digital marketing to attract customers from developed countries, whose purchasing power is stronger, meaning they are targeting places where the returns are higher, he added. He said that by building online relationships with customers, scores of freelancers are also helping them purchase additional items.

By facilitating their clients, these freelancers are not only selling their services but also earning commissions from other products, he added. “I know several people who are offering their art skills online and earning a decent monthly income,” he emphasized. Sensing the winds of change, he suggested that Pakistan should start polishing students’ skills at the school and college levels. So far, he lamented, the educational institutions have been ignored, as the government has not equipped them with modern tools.

He pointed out that every institution needs posters, banners, and creative displays, and students can meet such requirements efficiently. These students, he stressed, must also learn how to design wall art for local restaurants, cafés, and other businesses, because diversity brings excitement and opportunity. This approach, he argued, would open new doors of opportunities for youngsters in Pakistan. He suggested that young people should start small but think big, because with patience and persistence, they can climb the ladder steadily, he added.

Talking to WealthPK, Dr Ayesha Riaz, in charge of Home Sciences at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, said artists observe the world with meticulous detail and highlight its many dimensions appealingly. She urged the younger generation to excel in their chosen fields, making every possible effort to secure a bright future.

She added that the university was pulling all the stops to enhance the practical and professional skills of students while also focusing on community development. The university recently brought everyone under one roof by engaging students, faculty members, and training professionals to explore effective methodologies, tools, and strategies, she remarked.
