The China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. (CSCEC) has been selected to rehabilitate specific sections of National Highway N-5 in Sindh.

According to an official document available with Wealth Pakistan, the National Highway Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Communications is implementing the project.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project on February 27, 2026. The China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd. was selected to bid for the scheme. The contract has been drafted for signing.

The project carries a Chinese grant commitment of $100 million. The grant agreement was signed on Dec. 31, 2020, with a planned implementation period of 24 months from the project’s commencement.

Contractor selection marks an important milestone for the rehabilitation initiative, which aims to upgrade key sections of one of Pakistan's most strategically important national highways.

National Highway N-5 serves as a vital transport corridor connecting major cities, commercial centres, industrial zones and agricultural markets across the country.

The planned rehabilitation is expected to enhance road safety, improve driving conditions, facilitate smoother movement of passenger and freight traffic along the targeted sections, reduce vehicle operating costs, minimize transportation delays, strengthen the efficiency of domestic supply chains, and benefit transport operators, businesses and communities.

The Chinese grant assistance reflects the continued commitment of Pakistan and China to infrastructure development and economic cooperation, particularly in sectors that directly support trade, logistics and regional connectivity.

The project also highlights the broader scope of bilateral development cooperation, with Chinese financial and technical support contributing to the modernization of Pakistan's existing transport infrastructure.
