Indian authorities are establishing additional checkpoints in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts of the Jammu region in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. According to Kashmir Media Service, although the checkpoints are being set up in the name of security for pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra, yet observers see it as a part of broader strategy to further intensify restrictions in the territory.
The 38-day-long yatra is scheduled to start on July 3 from the twin routes — the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route in Islamabad district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district — to the 3,880-metre-high shrine of Amarnath. All Station House Officers (SHOs) were directed to intensify measures and patrolling during night hours. KMS-3K
