Prof Abdul Rauf, a Pakistani academic at China’s Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in advancing sustainable development and fostering inclusive growth under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) at the CRID International Scholars Research Workshop in Nanjing.

Addressing an audience of over 70 scholars from 10 countries including Pakistan, Russia, Morocco and Bangladesh, alongside international experts from Chinese institutions, Prof. Abdul Rauf detailed his team’s pioneering work in climate-finance modeling at the gathering organized by the Center for Research Innovation and Development (CRID), Gwadar Pro reported.

“As a key member of the AI for Sustainable Finance Research Group, we’re building dynamic models to simulate climate change impacts on financial markets,” explained the Master Supervisor from the School of Management Science and Engineering.

“Our TCFD-aligned research helps institutions develop resilience strategies while directing capital toward renewable energy and low-carbon technologies across BRI partner nations.” Prof Abdul Rauf presents on Academic Writing and Research in the Era of AI at the CRID International Scholars Research Workshop, photo provided to GP

The Pakistani scholar further highlighted China’s decade of “dynamic and tremendous progress” in green technology development. “China has demonstrated excellence across technology, AI, and robotics while actively encouraging international collaboration. Our research explores how AI can reduce brown energy consumption and accelerate the transition to sustainable economies.”

Connecting his academic work to wider development objectives, Prof Abdul Rauf drew on his PhD research on the energy-economy-environment nexus in BRI countries.

“The initiative represents a model of shared prosperity that benefits all participants, not just one country. I deeply appreciate this approach to international cooperation.” Reflecting on the Pakistan-China collaboration, he characterized the partnership as multidimensional. “The technological and strategic sharing between our nations extends across numerous fields.

This relationship, built on mutual respect and understanding, creates progressive momentum for both countries.” The workshop featured exchanges on AI algorithm optimization and communication protocol innovations, with roundtable discussions generating perspectives on technical ethics and interdisciplinary collaboration, underscoring the event’s role as a vital platform for global academic dialogue.
