POWERCHINA has launched emergency relief operations in Punjab’s Jhang district after devastating floods submerged hundreds of villages, the company said. “Recently, Jhang in Pakistan suffered from floods, and the Haveli O&M Project of POWERCHINA promptly launched an emergency response, providing health checks, medicines and food to 150 people until now,” according to a statement by the company.

It added that moving forward, “POWERCHINA will continue to monitor the situation closely and actively fulfill its social responsibilities, contributing to local disaster relief efforts, " Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday. Under the CSR initiative, the company has been organizing free medical camps and community nourishment drive.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), monsoon-related incidents have killed 300 people in Punjab since June 26 and left 661 injured. More than 2.8 million people in the province have been rescued or evacuated. Jhang is among the worst-hit districts, with floodwaters engulfing over 200 villages, sweeping away homes and destroying crops.

The Haveli Bahadur Shah Combined Cycle Power Plant, located in Jhang, is one of the most efficient power stations in the world, operating at 62.45% efficiency on regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). Built under an EPC contract by POWERCHINA, the 1,230-megawatt plant began simple cycle operations in July 2017 and full combined cycle commercial operations in May 2018. Its operations and maintenance are managed by SEPCOIII, a subsidiary of POWERCHINA.
