The Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company, Global International, and several local exporters to enhance the production and export of boiled meat to China.

The agreement, signed at the Livestock Complex in Lahore, aims to strengthen Pakistan’s value-added meat exports, improve processing standards, and expand access to international markets.

Gwadar Pro quoting an official statement stated, under the MoU, the department partnered with six leading Pakistani meat exporters including Taj Meats, Syed Traders, Abdeen International, Khan Dairy, Go Foods and PEMPCO, to promote meat production, processing and exports in line with global standards.

Provincial Minister for Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said the agreement would help drive sectoral growth and increase foreign exchange earnings.

“This memorandum of understanding between meat exporters and the Livestock Department will lead to growth in the livestock sector and an increase in foreign exchange,” Kirmani said.

He added that the provincial government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has introduced transformative initiatives to strengthen the livestock sector and rural economy.

Referring to the government’s “Livestock Card” program, Kirmani said interest-free loans are being provided to farmers, benefiting thousands and enabling the fattening of around 300,000 animals, which has significantly increased meat production.

“With this agreement, collaboration between the government and private sector will boost value addition and expand exports of livestock products,” he said.

Livestock Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar highlighted ongoing reforms, including the development of the mutton sector, modernization of veterinary services, women’s economic empowerment programs, mobile veterinary units, and youth internship initiatives.
